Auburn State Recreation Area

The Auburn State Recreation area consist of over 35,000 acres along 40-miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American River.

 

There are many recreational opportunities include; hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle riding. There are several Whitewater rating outfitters licensed to run the rapids on the parks portion of the American River.

Camping - There are several primitive campgrounds available in the Auburn Recreation Area.

Mineral Bar Campground (Primitive)
From Hwy 80 in Colfax exit at Canyon Way, head north on Canyon way turn right onto Iowa Hill Rd. 3 mile paved road to sites and river.

Ruck-a-Chuck Campground(Primitive)
From Hwy 80 exit at Foresthill Rd. Going towards fffForesthill turn right onto Drivers Flat Rd., a 2.5 mile dirt road down to the site and river. There are five primitive campsites are located on the north side of the river on the Placer County side. The campground is at the end of a 2.5 mile gravel road.

Boat-in Camping - Lake Clementine (Primitive)
From Hwy 80 exit at Foresthill. Follow Foresthill Rd. 3.5 miles , then turn left at Lake Clementine Rd. Follow 2 miles down to the boat ramp. There are 15 boat in primitive sites. No vehicle access to the camp areas.
